If you’re single and your mom wants to set you up with her friend’s kid, you might want to let her. Just ask Emily and Nathan. They went to the same Virginia high school but it wasn’t until years later that the two fell in love. Nathan was stationed at a military base in Washington state and Emily was in grad school a couple of hours away. That’s when their moms, who worked together, decided to play matchmakers. I’d say those motherly instincts were pretty spot on. I mean, this is a wedding blog, so we can guess what happened next. It’s safe to say, moms really do know best 🙂

Emily and Nathan chose to get married in one of my favorite little towns here in eastern Carolina: Beaufort. It’s a waterfront dream with rich nautical history and picturesque sunsets. It’s basically the perfect place for a wedding and a great match for Emily’s sophisticated style. The Ann Street Methodist Church set the scene for a traditional ceremony– and the Harvey W. Smith Watercraft Center proved ideal for an elegant, rustic celebration, to which Nathan and Emily arrived in style via a boat Nathan built himself. Note to future brides and grooms: your guests will be really impressed if you arrive in a boat. It was so cool!

Emily and Nathan have since left North Carolina for their next Marine Corps adventure but I hope these wedding photos will always be a reminder of this beautiful coast where this chapter of life together began. Semper Fi, Mr. and Mrs. Hayba!
